Setting up Global Ambassador is quite a task. Like building anything, you have to make sure you incorporate and include the best components to ensure the final structure is sound, dependable and will deliver the quality of service you want to be known for.

To this end we are making a great deal of effort to find the best partner to provide us with educational content. For, not only do we want to make sure that the site is well informed from a reporting point of view, we also want to include elements of interest to current and would-be students.

Part of our aim is to ensure that even the most remotely located visitors to the Global Ambasador site will have access to information that will both educate and inform them in order to improve their lives and ability to thrive.

More of that later but, for now, we are happy to announce that we are currently talking in depth with the excellent Lim Kok Wing University of Malaysia. Let's hope we can formulate a mutually beneficial working partnership.

Global Ambassador
OFFLINE
Since originally launching "Taste of Asia Magazine" I have been amazed at the amount of interest the concept and its content attracted. Consequently I have been working on a much broader reaching format for the promotion of Asia and other emerging markets. I can't unveil too much right now, but do "watch this space" for news.

Most importantly, when launched, the new project will include Debutday and that will ensure that many more people will have access to member information.
So, I urge all Debutday members to make the most of this facility by adding all updated information as, before you know it, a much better facility will serve to promote you.

Launch date estimated as Winter 2010.

Meeting Cherrie Blair at Taste Asia Fair
OFFLINE
The Taste of Asia Food Fare at London's Potters Field Park last weekend was a great success, well attended by both stall holders and the general public, with TV Chef Ross Burden manning the Theatre Kitchen. I think it would be very true to say that everyone went home well tanned, well fed and well entertained.

The highlight for me was meeting with Cherrie Blair who kindly opened the proceedings for us and gave a great cooking demonstration with BBC TV Cook Anjum Anand. Mrs Blair works with a charity seeking to help under nourished children in India so an Asian Food event was a great platform for her to meet the public. As she explained, children who grow up in poverty develop a low expectancy attitude to life, if they are to grow, thrive and prosper they must experience a much better start in life and proper nourishment is essential.

GEMS 2009
OFFLINE

The Global Emerging Markets Summit took place at the end of April in London over two days and once again provided a fine selection of speakers from governments and commerce throughout the emerging markets of Asia and Africa.

Though there was a great deal of interesting discussion on why the current economic crisis occurred and whether it was due to incompetence, greed or complacency it was recognised that America's foolhardy explorations into sub prime markets was the overall cause.

As a result, America's position as a global leader has been thrown into question, at least when based on its position as a financial super power, something it certainly cannot claim to be at the moment.

Asia is in a very strong position with Japan, China and India holding the best dollar reserves to ensure their own financial stability and ability to carry themselves through and beyond the crisis.

Watch as the eyes of the World begin to divert from West to East as the balance of power shifts from one to the other. Our tomorrows could begin to take on a very different focus very soon.

In this photo I am joined by Ms Chloris Flint, Deputy President ASEAN UK, Tan Sri Dato' Seri Rafidah Aziz, Former Minister Trade & Industry Malaysia, Victoria Bowater-Wright, Former Bilateral Aid Advisor to Malaysia & New Zealand.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad
OFFLINE
Last week I thoroughly enjoyed a rare opportunity to meet someone of genuine stature and international importance whom I had long heard stories of, all of which were accompanied by broad smiles and obvious admiration.

Dr. Mahathir Mohamad is a former Prime Minister of Malaysia and more importantly, he led the country for some 22 years. Controversial, maybe? Unconventional - for sure. For this man is the genuine article, a real politician who acts from the heart and speaks with his own mind. He doesn't mince his words or hide behind protocol, he just says what he thinks and he means every word.

At his lecture entitled "The Alternative G20 Agenda" at the Royal Commonwealth Society in London in April 2009, Dr. Mahathir held the attention of everyone in the room as he explained what he thought the cause of the recession was, who was to blame and what the implications of any offered solution might be. Some in the audience, with their own agenda, may have found some of his comments hard to accept but similarly hard to deny. I found myself wishing he were still in a position to attend the summit in order to deliver his "matter of fact" and wise words to those politicians who might, for all their promises to act in the World's best interests, still be missing the point through a blindness created by their party politics.

Dr. Mahathir is in no doubt about the dangers of greed, the foolishness of making money from money instead of tangible goods, the thinly veiled reality of who the World Bank is actually working in favour of and the lack of reality to all the new cash being "printed" and pumped into the economy to give it a kick start. He mused, "where did all that money go and where does all the new money come from?" He suggested it was just a part of the hot air that would be exchanged at the G20 Summit between the few who would actually have any real say or control over events or what was to be done to get the World economy back on its feet.

Like an old Uncle, Dr. Mahathir spoke basic practical common sense, much the same as he had done throughout his years in office. In my oppinion the World would do well to adopt his approach to analysing what's wrong and what needs to be done to put it right. Or is that just too simple for the "World Leaders" to grasp?

Caught up in events!
OFFLINE
Firstly, my apologies for not making any entries for a while. The truth is I've been completely wrapped up in what I have been doing and I simply haven't had the time to sit down and do my blog chores.

Mantra has been a fascinating project, trying to create a new City rival to Ronnie Scotts in the sense of establishing the restaurant as a live music venue, aimed at "adults" who want to come out for the best Indian food in London, some great music and the chance to dance. Well, we've put on about 6 shows so far with varying success. Advertising is lacking due to a zero budget, but the acts have been great and those who have come to enjoy them have all had a great time. There are still many bridges to cross before Mantra gets where I want it to go but progress is being made and I'm convinced that the result I'm after is just a matter if "time" away. There is so much support for what I'm doing that it truly deserves to work - hopefully that will justify all the effort I am putting in.

I'm also busy with our shop, "Little Sew n' Sews" in Epping which is enjoying better times due to the recesion as people actually start to sew and knit again. There is definately an upsurge there and we just hope it continues. We are about to start mail order on the net so - if you are into needlecrafts - please watch out for us.

So much more has been happening but it's mainly personal so not for venting here. But if you would like to know more about Mantra - please follow this link and take a look...

http://mantracrutchedfriars.homestead.com/Home.html

Listen to some music samples from our acts, it will give you a good taste of what's been going down at Mantra.

If you are local why not come and enjoy a meal? The food is terrific!

Mantra Restaurant Rocks Out!
OFFLINE
Valentines Night was our first opportunity to test the water with music at Mantra.

We stained the dance floor, set the scene with Balloons and Roses, hired a great performer, placed the Chef and Waiters on Fast Speed and off we went!

Not only was the night well attended, but everyone had a great time, enjoying the food and the music - not to mention the atmosphere. Mantra is a friendly place at the best of times but putting music back on the menu had everyone in high spirits so it was certainly a great place to spend Valentines night this year.

We are delighted to announce that due to the success of Juanita Diaz's sparkling performance we have decided to make music a permanent feature from now on at Mantra, with shows every Thursday and Friday night starting from the 19th February 2009.

As soon as we can we will also begin "unplugged" performances in the Bar too. So, don't miss out - give Mantra a call and see what's going on next.

Juanita Diaz will be back to set us off on Thursday the 19th so make sure you are there!

Developing Mantra Restaurant & Bar
OFFLINE
With a national economy on its knees it's no surprise that building a new business, or even sustaining an established one, takes all the effort you can muster. Launching Taste of Asia Magazine has proved too difficult for me alone at this moment. Securing investors, selling advertising etc all requires more assets and manpower than I have available at the moment. The project will continue limping along, but will be properly ressurected as soon as funds are available.

Meanwhile, I am working as a consultant at Mantra Restaurant and we have achieved a great deal in these first weeks to build on the reputation and facilities this fine restaurant has to offer. Mantra can seat over 200 people and has a separate bar for a further 50 on the ground floor. It makes an ideal destination for both quality dining or socialising with a drink.

Mantra has two very definate types of client. Firstly our City location assures us a regular and loyal lunchtime customer base who enjoy coming just for the great food or to conduct business meetings in the polite and appropriate surroundings. Then, in the evenings, we have room and facilities to support live music and dancing for those "grown-ups" who wish to enjoy themselves away from the craziness of the clubs.

Mantra Restaurant and Bar is fast becoming a great place on the social circuit for nice people to have a great time.

Have you been there yet? No... ? Then come on.... you are missing out!

We have a Valentines event on the 14th, if you'd like more information - drop me a line at: trevor@tasteofasiamag.com

Beware of Con Men Scum!
OFFLINE
If you run a restaurant, as many of my friends do, there is always a risk that some low life will try and rip you off and leave without paying. This is a true account of an event that occured on New Years Eve which left only the Restaurateur with a bad taste in his mouth.

In the early part of the evening a respectable looking family of four entered the restaurant. Mum and Dad and two sons, both in their 20's. All was very pleasent, the evening went well and the family enjoyed a good meal and drinks to the tune of about £130.

Then, just before it was time to pay, one of the sons declared that he had found glass in his meal and was bleeding from the mouth. He took the glass from his mouth and showed the Manager.

At this point let me assure you there was no chance of there being any glass in the food at all and this was an obvious scam.

One of the waiters actually witnessed the boys exchanging something hand to hand that was popped into the recipients mouth shortly before the Manager was called for.

The customers demanded an apology and threatened legal action, refusing to pay. What to do? This is a potentially eruptive scenario that could develop into an arguement, resulting in possible violence against the staff. Reluctantly the Manager resolved to let them leave without paying.

They had been turned over by scammers, but in these violent times does it make sense to risk antagonising a family group comprising of three unknown men?

This problem has given me sleepless nights. I would most certainly not have let them go, instead I would have called the Police and invited the customer to take me to Court. I firmly believe that if you are innocent you protect your rights at all costs. I hate being ripped off.

I mention this here merely to get it off my chest I guess, but also to warn others who may read this that it is still okay to defend your rights - don't let the scum win!

This family looked OK and did not present any cause for concern, but then, isn't that how all confidence tricksters work? They don't walk in dressed as burglars in stripey jerseys and masks.

Another friend of mine used to run a Cheese stall in a quiet market town. He kept losing whole trays of Yoghurts and Cheeses. Who did he eventually catch stealing his stock? It was a regular and trusted customer - the local Vicar's wife.

Be on your guard and without becoming paranoid - doubt everyone!

Protect your business at all times. The customer is NOT always right and you have the right to remember that.

It's official... I'm now part of O.M.E.C.
OFFLINE
Well, it's official... I'm now on the Committee of the Overseas Malaysian Executive Council which works to promote trade between Europe and Malaysia.

Naturally I will be supporting all members in any way I can with help and advice and also making Taste of Asia Magazine and, eventually, Asia Ambassador.org available to help in any way they can.

Times may be tough right now but the future is as bright as we make it for ourselves. We can sit back and allow all the bad news to give us an excuse for doing nothing, failing, or just not bothering... or we can get off our backsides, see this as an opportunity to steal a march on the competition and instigate opportunities that will only grow in better times.

The recession won't last forever, so get Christmas out of the way and then get on with improving your life! You only get out of it what you put into it!

So you can see I'm practicing what I preach - this is what I'll be doing in 2009 - starting on Monday 22nd December!

Mantra Restaurant - This 200 seat restaurant and separate 60 seat bar area will be redecorated and equipped to receive new customers in 2009. Great food, music and entertainment served up in a great atmosphere for you and your friends to come and enjoy. Watch this space for new info. We will be looking forward to you spending time with us!

Taste of Asia Magazine - will continue to be developed and the market expanded.

Asia Ambassador.org will be set-up and launched to support all of Asia - on line. I'm really excited about that! Our website is being worked on now and should be ready early January.

Debutday.net will continue to expand and find new members throughout the World - with your help too of course!

So - don't think I'll be sitting back and worrying about how tough the economy is making MY life - or finding excuses to be negative - no Sir that is just NOT my style!

Keep in touch and tell me what you are doing with your future!

Datuk Peter Wentworth OBE on the Future of Energy
OFFLINE

On the 15th of December 2008 Datuk Peter Wentworth OBE, CEO of BP Companies Malaysia, addressed an audience at the Corus Hotel in Hyde Park London, on the future of World energy resources as we currently see them.

His speach was concise and to the point. Energy is a reducing commodity faced with a rising demand and the only reason the World was coping right now was because of the economic down turn subsequently and temporarily reducing that demand as industry cuts back to cope with the effects of a World wide recession. Oil prices were falling due only to current surplusses but that would change as economies regained ground and industry returned to increased production.

He explained that as China has no Oil reserves to speak of, it depends on imported stocks or the use of coal which it does have in plentiful supply, Chinas need for Oil could only be satisfied by reduced usage elsewhere through increased efficiency. The World currently requires 85 Million Barrels of Oil a day, a level that simply isn't posible. It is unlikely that current production methods will increase yields to that level for at least another five years.

He explained that international demands for every nation to reduce carbon emmisions was also probably unachievable at this time as demands for energy rated as a higher priority to fulfill the Worlds needs than the protection of the environment. He added that the future for power generation was probably going to depend heavily on Nuclear and Coal fired Power Stations, unpopular though that may be.

At present drilling efficiency levels, Oil will run out in just 40 years. Gas will run out in 80 years and Coal in about 140 years. Though there is consierably more left in the fields, it is currently impossible to reach it or retrieve it viably. Such time spans are minimal in World time terms, so efficiences must be increased and new power sources developed.

For an extended commentary please see my report at www.trevorkrueger.com which will be added soon.

Tim Smit Endorses Debutday
OFFLINE
In the early stages of development, often the only thing an entrepreneur can expect to draw from the business is the encouragement of his peers.

So when Bonnie Langford first offered encouragement I was delighted. She's a very smart cookie to say the least and has a great interest in encouraging and nurturing young talent. For her to be the first to put her name to the project was a really big lift for me.

Then I met the invincible Deirdre Bounds. A woman who started life with more obstacles than some, but not only came through all of that but made an enormous success of her dream idea too. Now she mentors others to achieve their dreams. The World needs more people like Deirdre Bounds.

Then, just a few minutes ago, I learned from Tim Smit, Chairman and Founder of the Eden Project, that he was also willing to give us his testimonial of support for the Debutday concept. This meant so much to me, for Tim is not only a great entrepreneur and visionary, he is also a very funny and passionate man, the most entertaining speaker I have ever listened to (and Deirdre is pretty hot!). But, what makes him extra special for me is the fact that he is a fellow song writer and record producer with seven platinum albums to his credit. Now that IS something I wish I could say I had achieved in my life. I am so grateful to him for his support, it means the World to me.

I learned from Tim that if you can get just four people to believe in your project you are probably on to something good. He calls this his "Tinkerbell Theory". Well, I have had many tell me they believe in my ideas but I guess I need just one more to endorse the site to pass Tims test.

I wonder who it will be?

Asia Ambassador World Platform Ready to Preview Soon!

This week has seen significant advances in the development of our new facility for Asia. Talks with a leading web broadcasting house resulted in enthusiastic plans to push ahead with a trial module and a preview site should be available to view very soon.

Talks have also opened with a major news agency to supply current affairs and news footage on a regular basis to help ensure we are able to deliver up to the minute bulletins and reviews on Asian affairs.

This is a most exciting project for us and one which we hope will claim international dominence in delivering Pan Asian content to the World.

Mumbai Madness
OFFLINE
It never ceases to amaze me how the peace can be broken so suddenly. One minute Mumbai is its usual bustling self, then suddenly all hell breaks loose.

How is it that we rarely seem to hear of these violent events brewing in the background. A few crazed individuals descend on a city, apparently from the sea, causing chaos and the taking of innocent lives. Even a baby is caught in the midst of a hostage situation, apparently unharmed but engulfed in the madness all the same. What are these people trying to prove and why does it have to involve the innocent who have no connection with whatever the terrorists gripe is about?

Of course, the death and the turmoil is only the tip of the iceburg. That's the part we see, the public display, the flaming end of a suddenly struck match. But there is much more going on and that is what we must be aware of and focused on. The excelent millitary commandoes will catch and correct the terrorists in due course and, rest assured, the law will be quite instantly enforced long before terrorism gets its day in court. But what about those behind the scenes, the organisers, the supporters, the fund raisers, the obsessives who indoctrinate the human tools who end up dishing out the death on the World stage. Surely it is those "back stage" who are the real danger to society for it is they who fuel the future attacks.

The terrorists who inflict the attrocities are basically, in my oppinion, just the dumb end of the operation. They are the delivery boys, the brainwashed, equipped with the weaponry and a list of things to do with it, inspired by the belief that they are doing good in the name of - we are supposing at this point - Islam.

Religion to my mind is a personal thing. Something that lives inside us. It is to be carried alone and if warranted, shared with the like minded on occassion. Why anyone should feel they have the right to shove their beliefs down anothers throat I just can't understand.

We all have opinions and, especially in this case at the time of writing this, we can only speculate about the reasoning behind this latest pathetic display of muscle. But let me pass this message to anyone who may be interested.

We are one planet, one people, one life. Our aim should be to share our time, our space and our resources peacefully for the duration of our time on Earth and then leave any improvements we have made for our children. Regardless of race, colour or crede we are all people first and all born equal. Only money seems to have the ability to make one individual believe he stands taller than his poorer neighbour, a superficiality of human insecurity. When it comes to religion - keep it private, keep it inside. It can be done and I have proved it. I am Christian, my wife is Muslim. We have been married for almost 15 years and have two fine sons. Sure, our backgrounds could not be more different and we have had to learn about each other. But, all that's important is that as "people" we are good and we love each other. Our spiritual differences are never even discussed and the only concession I have had to make to accomodate her wishes is that I don't eat Pork products in the house. A small sacrifice considering what she brings to our family in return.

So, let us be people first and mature enough of mind to recognise that we actually can live happily together and that conflict for any reason whatsoever is entirely born of lack of ability to reason or tolerate. These terrorists do not fight in the name of religion, they fight to give others, who manipulate them, power. The ones who call themselves leaders but shall be known as cowards, not even brave enough to carry out their own filthy deeds.

World, it is time to grow up! We are all different, accept that and embrace it. Go about your lives in peace and embrace the inteligence your God gave you. There is far more power in peace than there ever will be in terrorism.

They do not build statues to commemorate the deliverers of evil but there are thousands in remembrance of the peacemakers.

Tony Fernandes - Now everyone can fly!
OFFLINE

As pretty much expected, the launch of Air Asia's budget route from Stanstead to Kuala Lumpur was a grand and enjoyable occasion. Tony Fernandes is a man who enjoys his business and is generous enough to share that emotion with all around him. So this portion of my Blog is intended to give you more of a sense of being there than any analytical appraisal of the effect fares at £99 are going to have on his competitors in the long haul market. His aim is to make flying accesible to the wider public, especially his fellow Malaysians, only 6% of whom flew anywhere last year.

The day was glorious in our Thameside location at County Hall, cold but bright and the backdrop of Westminster across the water and the London eye to our right was splendid indeed. The focal stage was set with the expected branding and video reels, seats were decked with promotional material and outside there were stages set for latter entertainment.

There were special guests (you can discover more about in my news section at www.trevorkrueger.com), a copious qauntity of adorable cabin crew, whom I have decided should be called Tony's Angels, and countless hacks and photographers snapping like hungry crocs at the edge of a water hole.

Tony and his colleagues gave an impressive introduction to the deal and made us all want to buy tickets on the spot. Suddenly paradise was in reach, I could smell the warm and humid air of KL under my nose and for a moment forgot it was actually frozen by the chill London wind.

After the speeches, brave and lovely Malay dancers entertained us with bare arms and bare feet refusing to show how frozen they were, though they had been huddled shivering next to the stage just moments earlier, sheltering from the wind. Shortly after came the big reveal. A sign showing the £99 price tag was unveiled for the media. I was genuinely impressed, for though there are taxes etc to pay on top of this base price, flights would now amount to a lot less than the £2,500 it can easily exceed to fly a family of four to the far east.

Then, Tony reverted to his love of music as he entertained us with a set of three tracks performed by the excellent new girl band "The Saturdays". This was a great event full of fun to support the hard facts of competitive air fairs that are sure to see bloodshed on the floors of competitors board rooms throughout the industry.

An excellent hot meal was served, we interviewed Tony for a radio broadcast and then we went on our way laden with Air Asia Baseball Caps and Tee Shirts! Later that evening Tony threw a party to top off the day on the 31st floor of Centre Point, it's night views across London - absolutely spellbinding. At around 9pm there was one last announcement. Since tickets went on sale at noon that day, over 9,000 seats had been sold for a service not even starting until March 2009.

Air Asia had taken off at Stanstead before the first jets had even landed to receive passengers.

Air Asia Launches London to Kuala Lumpur
OFFLINE
An interesting week coming up as I get ready to attend the launch of Air Asia's new route from London to Kuala Lumpur.

This aggresively marketed new addition to the competitive world of long haul traffic is out to beat the more familiar carriers such as Malaysian and Singapore Airlines and my other favourite - Emirates.

It will be interesting to see who prospers or even survives in these tough economic times where air travel is prone to the dangers of reduced tourism, as prospective travellers opt for more local destinations.

Watch this space and my news site at www.trevorkrueger.com for updates.

Sape' Music from Sarawak Malaysia
OFFLINE
If you like to listen to something different from time to time that could argueably be called "real" music, then take a listen to the sound of the Sape', a Lute-like instrument from the native forests of Malaysia.

Expertly played here by Mathew Ngau Jau who is described as "The Ngorek" which means "keeper of the songs". The featured track is entitled "Lan-e' Tuyang" which translates as "True Friends" from the album of the same name.

Mathew is very proud of his Sape' instrument for it is the very first of its kind. Carved and constructed by his own hand and fitted with electric pick-ups to highlight the sound.

The Sape' sounds somewhat Banjo-like in its tone and there are definately western similarities at times. It's amazing how music develops in the farthest of flung corners, devoid of any influence and yet sounding somehow familiar and completely unique at the same time. Track uploaded in the music section. Check it out...

Puppeteering - Getting My Hand In...
OFFLINE
Last week ended with a chance to learn more about Taiwan, the people, the food and the culture.

Asia House in New Cavendish Street W1, is doing a great job of promoting Asia and making it possible to get up close to many experiences otherwise unavailable without actually visiting the country in question. In recent days they have featured these wondeful puppets from Taiwan, Indonesian Cuisine, Mongolian Throat Singing and there is always art on show in the Gallery.

If you want to learn more about Asia and would like to share some of the experiences they offer why not become a member? It's not expensive to join and many events are free or low cost.  What's important is that you get a chance to meet great people from far away and you will always learn something new.

Take a look at their site at www.asiahouse.org  The inspiration you'll get there may just change your life!
